I’m a 30 something (ok, my partner would say nearly 40) woman living in St Andrews in Fife, Scotland, with two boys under 6. I work 4 days a week, and as anyone else with two young kids knows, have very little spare time!
I care about the environment and the world we live in. I don’t like what we humans are doing to our planet and I feel like I need to do something about it. However small.
I feel like I already do a lot to lower my environmental footprint. But for a long time, I’ve felt rather disempowered when it comes to action on climate change. I know there is a problem that requires far reaching change (more than we realise is necessary), but my problem is how do we do it?
What’s the point in my doing something when others aren’t doing it too? What is the point when governments aren’t creating the right environment to make the greener choices in life? All the incentives are wrong – our economic systems (and cultural norms) are rigged to make us consume more and more without counting the impact on the planet.
So here we are. Little old me and my family and this enormous global problem.
My Path to Green is about me making a public commitment to being greener and sharing the journey (ups, downs, challenges, opportunities, lessons) with others.
Each month, I plan to take a different part of my life – eg home, travel, food – and see what changes I can make. And I’ll let you know how easy it was, how hard, and what I’ve learned along the way.
